Effect Pedals - #22 - Morley Tremonti Power Wah

Number 22, this Tremonti Power Wah knocked Vai's Bad Horsie II off my pedalboard.

I am currently still using it, i just love the switchless design complete ease of use..

It doesn't have as much range as the Bad Horsie II or the Crybaby 535Q, but i dont really need that much range.....the Tremonti is versatile enough for me..

It'd probably be my last Wah pedal....as i'm pretty sick of the tryin', buyin', sellin' cycle...yes i believe i've recovered from GAS!!!

Effect Pedals - #21 - ZOOM PS04

Again not really a pedal, this ZOOM PS04 is my very first piece of recording equipment...
Can't really remember much about this Palm studio, think i didn't keep it around very long :P

Effect Pedals - #20 - Behringer MIC200

Got this Behringer MIC200 in a trade, well i guess its not really a pedal....

it actually sounds quite ok sending my guitar signal through it, gives me a warm tube-like tone (afterall, it does have a 12AX7 in there..)

When toilet paper is worth more...

It's official... toilet paper is worth more than Zimbabwe dollars!!

Paul Gilbert's Detox EQ Pedal

The Detox EQ is a three band EQ built around the ultra quiet and warm Burr Brown IC. All three bands are very musical and useful with no harsh or missing frequencies. Master output Level control allows the user to set the Detox at unity, boost or cut. True bypass, 9 volt battery or DC adapter operation.

Paul Gilbert:

"The Detox EQ is the highest quality EQ pedal available anywhere. It's super quiet, has a total bypass footswitch, and most importantly . . . sounds great.
The Detox EQ comes with an instruction manual that I wrote myself to describe my personal settings and my philosophy behind using the pedal"

Jane Birkin pens "Aung San Suu Kyi"

Singer, Actress, Film director Jane Birkin has written a song for Aung San Suu Kyi in her new album "Enfants d’hiver". She’s involved in a campaign for Aung San Suu Kyi’s release and a plea for governments to pull out their investments in Burma.

Aung San Suu Kyi is a pro-democracy activist and leader of the National League for Democracy in Burma. She is currently under detention, with the Burmese junta repeatedly extending her detention.

Lyrics of the song:

Aung San Suu Kyi
will be gone
and she’ll be on a t-shirt
the marketing’s good
monks are dying

so the children are crying
we’ll be playing buckles
before you’re old girls

torture, drug dealers
finance our dreams
why should we care
the stock market’s good

petrol’s booming, generals wooing
trucks are looming
in Rangoon

we know your faces
come out and die
welcome the tourists
under the Burmese sky

…but tomorrow
the world will see
we did nothing
for Aung San Suu Kyi

Satch accuses Coldplay of plagiarism

"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rock guitarist Joe Satriani has sued British band Coldplay, accusing the Grammy-nominated stars of plagiarizing one of his songs.
Satriani's copyright infringement suit, filed on Thursday in Los Angeles federal court, claims the Coldplay song "Viva La Vida" incorporates "substantial original portions" of his 2004 instrumental "If I Could Fly."
The 52-year-old guitar virtuoso is seeking a jury trial, damages and "any and all profits" attributable to the alleged"

Effects Pedals - #19 - Tech21 Sansamp GT2

19th pedal, the Tech21 Sansamp GT2.

This must be the pedal i use the most, it sounds great, is extremely versatile, small in size and highly reliable, it has never failed me....very well built..

i have nothing but praise for this pedal, if you are in the market for a distortion pedal or a pedal for recording purposes (this was initially built for recording, but it works very well in a pedalboard as well) give it a try you won't regret it!

Famous Pedalboards -> Andy Timmons

Tone-God Andy Timmons board is pretty simple...

Budda Wah
Peterson Strobostomp
Exotic BB Preamp
Electro-Harmonix Deluxe MemoryMan [He uses 2 of them, one set to 500ms the other set to 350ms]
Chandler Tube Driver [i think he only uses this with his Mesa Boogie Stiletto]

Watch Andy demo his whole rig here!

Effects Pedals - #18 - Yamaha Nathan East Parametric EQ

Number 18, yup another EQ pedal......Yamaha NE-1

i wonder why......i thought i already decided i didn't need an EQ pedal after gettin' the MXR 6-band....?

Maybe 'cause of the shiny exterior..? or the cheap price? maybe both..

i really can't remember why i bought this pedal :P

but it work pretty well, for both Bass & Guitar, the "Shallow" & "Deep" modes are great for different tones..

Effect Pedals - #17 - Zoom Fire 7010

My 17th pedal, is a small multieffects pedal with its very own built-in amplifier/speaker & even a footswitch! Zoom Fire 7010

This pedal was released more than 10years ago...most of you probably never seen this before

It has the best distortion effect i've heard from multieffects, 'cause the distortion section is analog circuitry while the modulations are digital (if i remember correctly..)

i had alot of fun with this little guy during my "national enslavement"..helped keep me occupied at night in camp, i'm one of the many unfortunate ones who only got to book-out of camp on weekends...

After ORD, i played with it lesser....so i let it go...

Effect Pedals - #16 - Jim Dunlop Crybaby 535Q

What? another Crybaby 535Q??

No i'm not using 2 Crybabies together..

my old one was kinda faulty so i got another..

Effect Pedals - #15 - Ibanez TS9DX

My 15th pedal, is the Ibanez Turbo Tubescreamer TS9DX.

I guess every guitarist will own a variant of the famous Ibanez Tubescreamer some time or another, i'm no exception.

Besides the Boss DS1 & MT2, this is probably the most talked about pedal...(sidenote: believe it or not i have never owned or played a Boss DS1 pedal...yes never! amazing isn't it?)

Ok back to the TS9DX, to be honest i only use the classic TS9 mode on this pedal, i feel the Turbo mode boosts the mids too much..the classic TS9 mode gives a very nice tubey tone that this pedal is known for.

Famous PedalBoards -> Alexi Laiho & Roope Latvala [Children Of Bodom]

From what i've gathered Alexi Laiho & Roope Latvala use only RackMount effects, i did read somewhere that Alexi uses a Boss SD1 to boost his signal.

Here's Alexi Laiho's Rack:
Samson PowerBrite Pro 9
Shure UHF Wireless Antenna
Shure UHF Marcad Diversity MKII Wireless Unit
RSP 2400 Hush/Enhancer/Exciter
Rocktron Intellifex
SansAmp PSA 1 (Tech 21 NYC)
Lee Jackson GP-1000
VHT Two/Fifty/Two

Here's Roope Latvala's Rack:
SansAmp PSA 1 (Tech 21 NYC)
Alesis QuadraVerb
RSP 2400 Hush/Enhancer/Exciter
Lee Jackson GP-1000
Lee Jackson SP-1000
VHT Two/Ninety/Two

REAPER

REAPER is a fully featured multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, processing, mixing, and mastering environment.

It is the best "free" (you can pay to get rid of the nag screen, but it really isn't a big deal) recording software i've come across, and it is also the only software to have regular upgrades available for download...

REAPER can be downloaded here:

Famous PedalBoards -> John Frusciante [Red Hot Chili Peppers]

Been listenin' to John Frusciante's solo stuff lately...the more recent stuff like "Inside the Emptiness" & "Curtains" are pretty good, but i'd skip his 1997 album "Smile From the Streets You Hold" (the vocals are too weird)....
was wondering what gear he uses, and this is what i found....
MOOG MADNESS!!

Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble, DS-1 Distortion, DS-2 Turbo Distortion, Volume pedal
Electro-Harmonix English Muff’n fuzz, Holy Grail Reverb, Big Muff Pi fuzz, POG Polyphonic Octave Generator, Electric Mistress Flanger
DOD 680 Analog Delay
Moog MF-105 MuRF, MF-105B Bass MuRF, MF-101 Low-Pass Filter, MF-103 Phaser
Ibanez WH-10 Wah
Dunlop DB-02 Dime Custom CryBaby
Digitech Whammy
Line6 DL4 (Delay), FM4 (Filter)
MXR MicroAmp (Not sure 'bout this, but does look like a MicroAmp to me..)

Effect Pedals - #14 - MXR 6-Band EQ

Number 14, MXR 6-Band EQ

My 1st EQ pedal, i realised i didn't really need one after gettin' it....hahahaha!

I feel EQ pedals are handy to have around but not absolutely necessary, Amp EQ is enough for me..you probably don't need it either, unless you play really diverse stuff with vastly different tones....

But it does look very impressive with the different bands having their own Red LED light...

Effect Pedals - #13 - Boss Super Overdrive 1

Number 13, is the Boss SuperOverdrive SD-1

Think i purchased this pedal on a whim, probably gotti cause Zakk Wylde used 'em...

i was quite obsessed with gettin' Wylde's screamin' pinch harmonics, i thought this would help...it did.....but so would alot of other pedals out there....

Effect Pedals - #12 - Jim Dunlop Crybaby 535Q Wah

My 12th pedal is my second Wah pedal, the Jim Dunlop Crybaby 535Q Wah

This is in my opinion the most versatile great-sounding easily available wah pedal you can find in the market, the only reason why i sold it is that its using a traditional switch operation.

I am currently using Morley Wahs NOT because they sound better, but because they're just so easy to use...i love the switchless design, in terms of sound & versatility the 535Q still beats my Morleys...

Alive

it sucks to be sick....when you are sick, all the things that seemed to matter so much before pales into the background...suddenly you dont care 'bout 'em anymore...& it seems life is so much more than the tangibles you valued previously....

i feel much better now...i breath better...

started muggin' again for the exams comin' in the next 2 weeks.....really wanna get this semester over & done with (of 'cause hopefully with decent results..)

Keep Breathing...

Breathing, its effortless..
Everyone's doing it although they may not really feel it
I feel it now, i do..

Why?

Because i cannot breath properly now...
Sometimes every few breaths that i take is puncuated with prolonged coughing
(Screams from my lungs)

I cannot take deep breathes without coughing
My breaths are quick & shallow, like everyone of them could be my last.

Kirk screws-up (Funny Video)

Kirk screws-up a riff from the new album ;P

Famous PedalBoards -> Steven Wilson & John Wesley [Porcupine Tree]

Steven Wilson of prog band Porcupine tree, one of my favorite prog-rock bands!
(John Wesley only plays with Porcupine Tree for their live shows)

Wilson's board:
Wesley's board:

TC Electronic G-System
Ernie Ball Volume pedal
Boss volume/expression
Boss DD-20 Delay
Boss RT-20 Rotary Twin
Boss Chromatic Tuner
Carl Martin compressor
Bad Cat two tone distortion
Dunlop Crybaby Wah
Klon overdrive
Analogman Mini Bi-Comp compressor
Peterson Strobostomp tuner

Effect Pedals - #11 - Boss Tuner [TU-12]

Not really an "effect", but i'll put it here anyway....

Before i got this i was using a crap seiko tuner that wasn't very accurate....

this Boss TU-12 is very accurate...it is also quite pricey, over 100Sing dollars..

i love the needle-pointer, it doesnt "fluctuate" wildly like other cheaper tuners..

Unfortunately, my TU-12 is kinda wonky lately.....probably gotta retired it soon....

Effect Pedals - #10 - Boss Volume [FVL50]

My 10th pedal, Boss FVL-50 volume pedal...

no power supply, no switch, volume pedals are no-brainer pedals, just step down for more volume, step off for less

Havent used any other volume pedals, so i cant really rate this one.....it gets the job done none the less....

Effect Pedals - #9 - Boss Noise Suppressor [NS-2]

After gettin' all those dirt pedals, my signal was gettin' really noisy (especially after addin' the Big Muff Pi)

so i went out & got myself my 9th pedal, the Boss NS-2...to kill the noise

i highly recommend this pedal for anyone who uses more than 2 dirt pedals, although it colors your tone, it suppresses noise very well..and its cheap

i've had other more expensive noise gate, they do not color your tone as much as the NS-2, BUT they dont work for more than 1-2 dirt pedals...

For example, if you've only got 1 noisy pedal in your chain the ISP decimator will work VERY well....BUT throwin' in a couple more noiser pedals will render the ISP pretty useless

F.A.Q.’s of Lehman & A.I.G.

came across this articles in the NYTimes, it explained & analysed quite clearly what exactly has happened the pass days..

What lead to the whole mess?

- "Fannie & Freddie helped guarantee mortgages (provided they met certain standards), and were able to fund these guarantees by issuing their own debt, which was in turn tacitly backed by the government. The government guarantees allowed Fannie and Freddie to take on far more debt than a normal company"

- "they appear to have used the funding advantage to rack up huge profits and squeeze the private sector out of the “conforming” mortgage market. Regardless, many firms and foreign governments considered the debt of Fannie and Freddie as a substitute for U.S. Treasury securities and snapped it up eagerly"

- "Fannie and Freddie were weakly supervised and strayed from the core mission"

Why they think Bear Sterns, Fanny Mae, Freddy Mac & A.I.G. were bailed out and Lehman wasn't..

- "When Bear was rescued, the Fed created a new lending facility to help provide bridge financing to other investment banks. The new lending arrangement was proposed precisely because there were concerns that Lehman and other banks were at risk for a Bear-like run. Since March, the Fed had also studied what to do if this were to happen again; it concluded that if it modified its lending facility slightly, it could withstand a bankruptcy"

- "if the government had rescued Lehman, it would have repudiated the claim that the Bear rescue was extraordinary; it would have also conceded that in the six months since Bear failed, neither the new facility that it set up nor the other steps to make markets more robust were reliable. Essentially, the Fed and the Treasury would have been admitting that they had lied or were incompetent in stabilizing the financial system — or both"

What happens to the man in the street..?

- "The concern for the man on Main Street is not the bankruptcy of Lehman, per se. Rather, it is the collective inability of major financial institutions to find funding.

As their own funding dries up, the remaining financial firms will be much more cautious in extending credit to normal firms and individuals. So even for people whose own circumstances have not much changed, the cost of the credit is going to rise. For an individual or business that falls behind on payments or needs an increase in short-term credit because of the slowing economy, credit will be much harder to obtain than in recent years
."
