Fender Elite Strat (1983-1984)

Looks alien…

This guitar model featured an alder body, a maple neck featuring a rosewood or maple fingerboard with 21 jumbo frets, Schaller die-cast tuners with pearloid buttons, BiFlex truss-rod system with MicroTilt neck adjuster, Schaller Straplock Ready locking strap buttons, two hardened steel EasyGlider string trees, side-mount jack socket and a Freeflyte vibrato system, as well as three serrated "rubber insert"-style control knobs.

The Freeflyte tremolo system differs significantly from previous Stratocaster tremolo designs. All routing is done from the front of the guitar. A cavity was created where the spring system would reside, and this connected to the bottom of the tremolo unit; the result was an unwieldy, unworkable piece of hardware. The company saved money this way by performing a single, front-sided rout on the guitar to accommodate the pickups, the tremolo, the preamp and the controls.

Other features included three special-design Alnico 5 single-coil pickups with solid covers and an internal dummy coil for hum cancellation, as well as three push-push buttons for pickup selection. Controls include a master volume, a TBX treble/bass expander and an active MDX midrange booster with 12 dB of gain. The sound of the Elite Stratocaster can be described as a thicker, heavier sound than a traditional single-coil-equipped guitar, especially with the TBX and MDX circuits at their maximum.

Effect Pedals - #33 – AMT DistStation DT-2

dt2-2

dt2-1

dt2-4

dt2-6

This is my first pedal purchase after 2-years of “gear celibacy”.

It is a forced purchase, as my Sansamp GT-2’s been giving me problems….guess it’s about time I retired my GT2 after 6-years of usage.

I seriously thought about buying another GT2, as I couldn’t find another pedal that could provide the same versatility until I stumble upon the AMT’s so called clone of the GT2.

The controls on the DT2 are labeled exactly the same as the GT2, the only difference is the slanted switches.

Construction of the DT2 feels cheaper compared to the GT2 although it’s price is only a little bit lower, I especially dislike the battery compartment, which is the screw-on type.

More than one person has told me that the AMT sounds more natural compared to the Sansamp and I must admit after trying them out side-by-side, the AMT has a smoother lead tone & a more polite rhythm tone, but I have a feeling the GT2 will cut through better when playing with a full band.

    dt2-5

Overall, I feel both are great gain pedals with incredible versatility, only a slight difference in tone separates them. The AMT smoother & the Sansamp more in-your-face sounding.

TC Electronics Iphone Polytune!

TC_polytune

Just tried out the Iphone version of Polytune while I was doodling on my guitar…wasn’t expecting much as the last Iphone app tuner I tried was rather disappointing….

To my surprise, TC Electronics tuner blows the Gibson L&M’s tuner out of the water, it is really quite accurate, thumbs up for the people at TC Electronics…I may be tempted to leave my Boss TU12 at home the next time I go jamming!

{Gibson} L&M Guitar iphone app

gibsonapp

Downloaded the “Gibson L&M Guitar” iphone app yesterday while I was browsing through the App Store….

I was just testing the Tuner function earlier and it isn’t terribly accurate, unfortunately it is not going to replace my Boss TU12 anytime soon…..

The Metronome function seems to work fine though..

Chords function is useful for beginners who haven't memorized the common chords…

There is also a Lessons function, which contains some lesson videos…but you’re better off searching for what you want on youtube….

I can’t complain since it’s free, but I really had hoped for a more accurate tuner :(
