Year End Movie Marathon (I)

Since I can’t walk around, I can only stay at home and watch films…have watched quite a number actually!

Alls Well Ends Well [2010]

Nothing special, just another New Year comedy.

My Rating: 2.5/5

I Corrupt All Cops [2009]

Another film about how corrupted the Hong Kong police force was during the 60s to early 70s, nothing special.

My Rating: 2.5/5

Mad Detective [2007]

“Mad Detective” is a story revolving around an ex-police detective who has the “ability” to see peoples’ multiple personalities and their inner thoughts.

I like the concept of the film very much, I got drawn into the story more as the mystery unfolded.

Especially like the ending of the film.

My Rating: 4.5/5 ~ MUST WATCH

Accident [2009]

“Accident” is a film about a group of friends who are paid to end the lives of people by meticulously planning elaborate ways to make the deaths look like pure accidents.

I like the way the story builds up but the ending was somewhat anti-climax.

My Rating: 3.5/5

True Legend [2010]

“True Legend” is a very fragmented film, it looks very much like it was pieced together using storyline from other films. Very manufactured.

My Rating: 1/5 ~ Don’t waste your time

Just Call Me Nobody [2010]

I think this is a China-made comedy, it has a few cameo appearances from comedians from Taiwan (Jacky Wu), Singapore (Mark Lee) and Hong Kong (Eric Tsang).

This is a somewhat refreshing change from the usual comedies released by Taiwan & Hong Kong, I think Chinese humor is slightly different.

All in all a pretty decent film, but the ending was a bit hasty and the final fight scene was lame.

My Rating: 3/5

Reign of Assassins [2010]

“Reign of Assassins” is about a lady assassin who decides to quit a life of killing for a more peaceful one after being enlightened by a strange monk.

The twists in the film are too predictable, else it would have been more entertaining.

My Rating: 3/5

 on-his-majestys-secret-service-1

On His Majesty’s Secret Service [2009]

This is modelled after the James Bond genre of films, set in the ancient times where the land was still ruled by an Emperor.

Louis Koo plays an imperial bodyguard whose lack of martial arts skill is made up by his intelligence and quirky inventions.

My Rating: 3/5

The Legend Of Zu [2001]

Star power, Interesting storyline, sophisticated special effects (for the year 2001), but not a “classic”

My Rating: 3/5
