Line6 Pod Studio UX1

UX1 to replace my KB37 which isn’t working……….

Time to record some new tunes!

15th Guitar - Yamaha APX-700II

headstock-tbody-t

So I sold my Takamine, it was a good guitar but I needed something with a slim body.

I tried several APX-700II & APX-500II at the store…off the rack the APX700II has every high action near the soundhole….the APX-500IIs seem to have lower action & more playable (to me at least).

I choose the APX-700II in the end, the solid top on the APX-700II produced a fuller sound.

The guitar is currently at TYMUSIC being setup & hopefully to achieve a much lower action.

Unfortunately, the Yamaha store does not help you lower the action.

efx-35-36

Number 35: Tone Factor Analogue Filter

Great for those Buckethead type slow melodic lead lines

Number 36: Jim Dunlop Crybaby 535Q

My love/hate relationship with this wah continues….I think this is the 4th time I’ve bought a 535 wah………….

Effect Pedals #34 -Yamaha Magicstomp

magicstompbox

First Impressions:

Modulations sound quite analog & “organic”, has some wacked-out effect patches like one that sounds like a cat, and some others that are great for ambient music.

Distortions are decent at best, but I didn’t get this for the gain sounds.

Software is easy to use, but here’s the downer: the software only works with WinXP, I tried it with Win7 it doesn’t run (although the magicstomp website indicated Win7/Vista/XP!)

Overall, a quality multi-effects pedal, I tried the Line6 M9 before buying this, the M9 sounded too digital to me (plus, I still have reservations about buying Line6 products after my KB37 broke down for no reason!)

Effect Pedals - #33 – AMT DistStation DT-2

dt2-2

dt2-1

dt2-4

dt2-6

This is my first pedal purchase after 2-years of “gear celibacy”.

It is a forced purchase, as my Sansamp GT-2’s been giving me problems….guess it’s about time I retired my GT2 after 6-years of usage.

I seriously thought about buying another GT2, as I couldn’t find another pedal that could provide the same versatility until I stumble upon the AMT’s so called clone of the GT2.

The controls on the DT2 are labeled exactly the same as the GT2, the only difference is the slanted switches.

Construction of the DT2 feels cheaper compared to the GT2 although it’s price is only a little bit lower, I especially dislike the battery compartment, which is the screw-on type.

More than one person has told me that the AMT sounds more natural compared to the Sansamp and I must admit after trying them out side-by-side, the AMT has a smoother lead tone & a more polite rhythm tone, but I have a feeling the GT2 will cut through better when playing with a full band.

    dt2-5

Overall, I feel both are great gain pedals with incredible versatility, only a slight difference in tone separates them. The AMT smoother & the Sansamp more in-your-face sounding.

CNB Pedalcase

So after around 8years & 32 pedals….i finally purchase my very 1st pedalboard!

cnb3

its the medium CNB pedalcase, got it from the good people at tymusic.

cnb2

the pedalcase comes with a couple of keys & a strip of velcro, the stock velcro is really weak…it will be prudent to get some of those industrial strength velcro from your neighbourhood hardware store..cnb

rig-2009-04-11-3

I haven’t bought a new pedal in months and don’t really have the desire to try something new for awhile, is this the end of GAS for me?

Effect Pedals - #32 – Fulltone Full-Drive 2~mosfet

fd2m

Number 32, this is my latest pedal purchase, the Fulltone Full-Drive 2(mosfet version)

The sound you get from the FD2 is very clear, despite its versatility(many options available) this is a standard overdrive unit it doesn’t get you into distortion territory.

The only thing i don’t like about the pedal is the mid-hump when its engaged.

Effect Pedals - #31 – Skreddy Top Fuel

top-fuel

Number 31, one of the few boutique pedals i own & still own, the Skreddy Top Fuel by Marc Ahlfs.

I still remember maybe a year or 2 ago, Skreddy fever hit singapore when Malcolm Tan started bringin’ ‘em in.

The first time i tried the ScrewDriver & Top Fuel was at Malcolm’s place, i was tryin’ out my Les Paul Studio after Malcolm had it setup.

Both pedals cleanup very well and sound in a way “organic”.

This pedal replaced my EH Big Muff Pi.

Effect Pedals - #30 – Zoom PowerDrive-01

PD01

Number 30!

OMG, didn’t realize i had gone through so many pedals.

Zoom PowerDrive-01

This has been labeled the poor man’s Klon centaur and it does a good job as a clean boost, in fact i prefer to use it as a clean boost (turn the gain to “0”) than as a standard overdrive pedal as its supposed to be.

Effect Pedals - #29 – Morley Bad Horsie II

BHII

Number 29, Steve Vai’s Morley Bad Horsie II Wah pedal.

This is my second Morley wah pedal (the first being the Tremonti Wah)

Decided to give this a try as it has the Contour Wah switch which allows you to alter the wah frequency and level.

I had a tough time deciding on which wah to keep, the BH-II was definitely more versatile/tweakable with the added knobs, but i preferred the sound of the Tremonti when playin’ through the amp set to a clean setting, so the BH-II was sold.

Effect Pedals - #28 – Ibanez LU-20 Tuner

LU20

Number 28, Ibanez LU-20 tuner.

My Boss TU12 was failing me, around the same time Ibanez released the LU20 @ a decent price…so i got it.

Sturdy construction, bright LED but unfortunately it isn’t as sensitive as my boss TU12.

Effect Pedals - #27 – Electro-Harmonix Lil’ Big Muff

LBM

Counting down, number 27, EH Lil’ Big Muff Pi

The newer smaller version of the Muff, it sounds pretty much similar to the large version… its a good fuzz pedal for someone on a budget.

Effect Pedals - #26 - Radial Tonebone Trimode

Number 26, Radial Tonebone Trimode.

I was so happy with the Tonebone Classic i decided to upgrade to this Trimode which even has its own effects loop...how cool is that!?

It is extremely extremely versatile with the 2-channels, and you can also further tweak the amount of gain turning the "screw"(?) on the side.

I put it beside my Tonebone Classic & tweaked it till it sounded exactly the same as i got used to that sound, then i sold off my Tonebone Classic.

Effect Pedals - #25 - Analogman CompRossor

Number 25, the AnalogMan CompRossor.

This is one of the few boutique pedals that i own.

Yes, its a great compresser pedal, very clear sound, quiet & it enhances your sound nicely with rich sustain

Effect Pedals - #24 - ISP Decimator

Number 24, the ISP Decimator, noise reduction pedal.

this is one of those highly regarded noise gates, from my personal experience it works great when you have less than 2 noisy pedals in your chain. More than that it might not be able to kill the noise.

It doesn't color your tone as much as other noise gates and there really isn't any noise when its active.
