[#6] Jamming @ Anaki Records!

The search for the BEST jamming studio in Singapore continues….

Jammed at Anaki Studio 2 today, located at 58B Temple Street, a short distance from Chinatown MRT.

The thing that caught our attention is the well-tuned Tama drumset in the studio, having been to many studios with crappy drumsets, my drummer was very pleased with this one, he is not easily pleased when it comes to drumsets.

New CD Day! Lunarin [Duae] & Rudra [Brahmavidya: Transcendental I]

Bought my copy of Lunarin’s 2nd album Duae & Rudra’s 5th album Brahmavidya: Transcendental I from Gramophone yesterday.

lunarin-front

Lunarin recorded Duae on their own from their home studio By The Woods, drum tracks recorded at Jurong West Street 65 (as stated in the booklet).

The album contains 12 songs.

I love their style of New Wave Metal, my favorite track Serpentine (Track 08) starts out sounding very much like something TOOL would play with the filtered vocals..but I must admit Linda Ong (Voice/Bass) sounds rather “whiney”on a few tracks.

There is a Thank You note enclosed in the CD which looks like it’s physically signed by the 3 members of the band.

rudra-front

Rudra’s Brahmavidya: Transcendental I  was recorded at Blackisle studios.

The album contains 14 songs.

Rudra has been around for 18-years since 1992, lineup for this album consists of:

{ Kathir (Voice/Bass), Shiva (Drums), Devan (Guitars), Selvam (Guitars) }

My favorite track in the album is Advaitamrta (Track 06)

I usually do not listen to a Rudra album from start to finish, I cant listen to Blast-Beats for too long as it is too noisy (LOL), strangely it feels great to play along to Blast-Beats during jamming at the studio maybe it’s the energy..?

Fairytales do exist

Woman trades broom for stardom

ETHIOPIAN housemaid Mahlet is changing her name to Maha and cutting her first video clip after proving to her Iraqi boss that she can sing better than she can clean.

Three years after she left her native Ethiopia to work as as a housemaid for prominent Kurdish musician Halcout Zahir, the 20-year-old woman is almost a household name in the northern autonomous region of Kurdistan.

Her break came when Iraq's musical phenomenon Dashni Murad - dubbed the 'Shakira of Kurdistan' - discovered her.

Murad was sitting in the maestro's recording studio waiting to see Zahir when she heard Mahlet sing while cleaning the house.

Mahlet's voice enchanted her and she urged Zahir to audition the young woman.

'I asked her to sing for me and I couldn't believe my ears. Her voice is beautiful,' said Zahir. The rest is history. Mahlet became Maha.

[#5] Jamming @ Liveamp Studios!

IMG_1663

Liveamp is a new studio that started operations around August 2010. It is about 5-10mins walk from Outram MRT.

The studio is huge with a very nice L-shape couch, this is the first studio I’ve been to that allows footwear inside, but we’ve been too well trained by all the other studios in Singapore that all of us removed our footwear promptly after entering the studio =)

The studio is equipped with all Marshall amps, TAMA drumset & Sabian cymbals….very nice.

The Boss & staff at Liveamp are all very friendly, do try them out if you like jamming in big studios :)
